‘Community is the Answer’ conference Glasgow, 9-11 June

The International Association for Community Development is holding its world conference “Community is the Answer” in Glasgow on 9-11 June this year. ‘Community is the answer’ is a collaboration organised by IACD and the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland, with the support of the Scottish Government and key partners, including CDAS. Proposals for workshops, presentations, and arts-based sessions have been received from more than 40 countries.  The first day has the theme of ‘Health’; the second day  focuses on ‘Wealth’ (on that afternoon delegates will have the opportunity to take part in field visits, as an alternative to further breakout sessions); and the final day focuses on ‘Power’. Fuller details are available at  http://www.communityistheanswer.org/ .

Education Scotland have agreed to sponsor 80 day places to allow people who would otherwise not be able to do so, such as unwaged or low-income volunteers, to attend the conference. This will reduce the day delegate rate to £35 (otherwise £99 to £125) inclusive of meals, conference pack, social events etc.  I am writing to ask you to bring this invitation to the attention of anyone who might be interested:

“If you live in Scotland and would not otherwise be in a position to meet the costs of your participation in the world conference “Community is the Answer” in Glasgow , you are invited to apply for a sponsored £35 day delegate place. To apply please provide a brief statement covering the following:

  •  Your current role (especially, for example, as an unwaged or low-income volunteer)
  • The name of any organisation that you are attached to
  • The reason that you are requesting a sponsored place (including what benefit you hope to get for yourself and your community)
  • The day on which you would like to attend (9 June: Health; 10 June: Wealth; 11 June: Power)

Priority will be given to allowing as many people as possible to benefit for one day each. But if any places remain, applications for a second day may be considered – if interested please also indicate a second choice of day.

Please return your statements to cdas@pdtaylor.com or Community Development Alliance Scotland, 56, Turnberry Road, Glasgow G11 5AP. We will let you know as soon as possible whether you have been allocated a place or not and what to do next.  Sponsored places will be allocated until all available have been filled ”
