Report on Growing Community Climate Action & Resilience in Highlands and Islands on 05/12/20

On the 5th of December 2020, we gathered around our laptops and tablets for an exchange focused on growing community climate action and emotional resilience in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. In this event, thoughtfully planned and hosted by Planet Sutherland and SCCAN, we welcomed three amazing speakers and enjoyed three engaging sessions.

Keith Masson, Climate Change & Energy Team Manager at the Highlands Council, spoke to us about the Council’s efforts to tackle the climate and ecological emergency and what communities can do to support and benefit from these plans.

Pamela Candea, an active SCCAN member who founded The Surefoot Effect which equips people, communities and organisations with the skills for sustainability and resilience conducted, gave us a short but very rewarding experience of Carbon Conversations Workshops with the goal to improve community conversations and reduce our carbon footprints.

Bobby Jones, of Freewheel Coaching, brought us  a clear, refreshing and supportive approach to coaching, showing us tools and techniques to help us to comprehend and rationalise the emotional difficulties that we are all facing during the pandemic and the climate crisis. SCCAN and Planet Sutherland are looking forward to follow-up this event and keep bringing more opportunities and space for networking, knowledge exchange and supportive climate conversations for the communities in the Scottish Highlands and Islands in 2021!
